CEL Report (Monica/Alaina)
- Things continue to be busy for Alaina and Monica with regard to student support, nutrition program, applying for grants (locally and beyond), coordinating Elder visits, grad coaching and seeking opportunities to attend events and workshops with students.
- The pancake breakfast was a great success and enjoyed by all in attendance. Many thanks to Nicole for leading and organizing and everyone who volunteered throughout the morning or were part of that in any way.
- Nutrition program:
- Things are going quite well overall and the store owners continue to try very hard to be accommodating and flexible as needed. Some of their regular staff have been away, which has led to slightly more confusion with lunch preparation and delivery – but everyone at the school has handled any “issues” as they have arisen.
- Grad coaching:
- We continue working with students to support attendance, completion of assignments, and encouraging students to communicate effectively and consistently with their teachers based on what they may need. We are also working to determine what documents/cards students may require and will work with families to facilitate student’s obtaining those necessary documents.
- Student/Family Engagement:
- We have a meeting planned with Amanda Knebush on Friday morning to explore opportunities to join Pheasant Rump Preventions for workshops, conferences, etc. Amanda often plans trips for the students and we would be happy to join as additional support, and for our own benefit/learning as well. Further, we would like to talk with Amanda about ways we can work together regarding student and family engagement ideas.
- In the new year, we are going to explore the possibility of resurrecting the student lunch mentorship program. There are many benefits to a program like this and we believe it would be a great addition for our students. More to come on this.
- ISSI Gathering:
- As Ron may have already mentioned, he, Alaina and I attended the ISSI Gathering in Saskatoon last week. This was an opportunity for us to network and learn from various ISSI partnerships in the province. Two groups presented to everyone and it was interesting to hear about their roles, successes, and challenges.
- We were also treated to a wonderful speaker: Knowledge Keeper – Robert Doucette. He shared a mix of stories, sentiments and invited hope as he spoke. He expressed his gratitude for the many ways Indigenous students are being supported through the ISSI partnerships.
- Christmas Potluck:
- Ron may have more information with regard to this event – but generally it is scheduled for the last Friday (or last day?) before Christmas break. While this is not CEL specific as far as the organizing – that credit goes to Laurie James and crew – it serves as a wonderful opportunity for our school to come together and share in a meal and celebration.
- December will be a busy month as always, and we hope everyone has the chance to rest and reflect on the past year while looking ahead to 2025 with optimism and hope.
- Thank you to each of you who support our school through your time and energy – it is important to our students and our staff. We appreciate you so much!
